STUDIO: INITIAL IDEAS CIRCUS LEEDS

After reading the brief I began several initial ideas, all of them resembling quite a similar style due to their specification of the use of type and it having to be stacked.

I began by blindly executing my stream of consciousness on illustrator and experimenting with several typeface that to my knowledge related to the circus or letterpress. I began with gastromond, a seemingly playful typeface that could easily be seen in a circus or fairground. I experimented with variations of lower case and upper case upon the stacked format to see how its pairing would fair and how its tone of voice was affected within each case. I then illustrated a subtle flag logo that could be found on top of a circus tent and placed it above the 'I' to slightly represent a flag pole.

This second idea also follows the stacked type approach but using two typeface this time, one with serif one sans serif to see how they would pair. I experimented with times new roman as well given the fact this was one of the more well known typeface invented by letterpress. I then pair this with a typeface that I thought slightly resembled a tall sans serif letterpress font.

This idea is also similar to the previous as it combines both sans serif and serif typefaces but this time with a more elaborate serif font. This has given the logo more character by using two contrasting typefaces. I also used a stretched typeface below inspired by old letterpress fonts once again.
