STUDIO: D&AD POSTER

After composing the record sleeve and animation, I was given some feedback towards how my poster could look. I was told that I could do a series of posters with different lyrics from the same song and give them all the same type treatment. I selected a few other lyrics which related back to my concept. "Don't Leave Don't Cry" and "It's Gonna Rise Again" Having the type then placed at the top of the A3 poster aided towards the concept of loneliness even more due to the empty space left below the rest of the poster. After this I selected a few different primary and secondary colours for each poster, making each one individual but recognisable as a set.

As these were posters for a campaign promoting the cause of loneliness and that it was alright to be alone, I needed to add some content on the posters to make this more obvious and raise awareness to the audience. Given the fact the projects topic was quite serious so far, I thought I'd make sure the content was a little bit more light hearted to make it more engaging with people. I researched into loneliness and other campaigns similar to this and discovered this article from a psychology blog called 'Thought Catalogue'. It had an article titled '5 Reasons Why It's Ok To Be Alone'. The bullet points from this article were perfect for my campaign.

1. Solitude: The clarity you receive from being alone is unmatched. It is just you, your surroundings, and your thoughts. You can enjoy and appreciate the beauty of those things in your life. In times of solitude, you can hear your own thoughts. There is no form of distraction. You can ponder those thoughts and get lost in them. Some thoughts end in a sudden realization, others lead to nowhere. But the journey of those thoughts is what matters most. It’s also a state where you are present in time. Most of life we play thoughts of the past in our heads or scenarios of the future we hope to unfold. You see your life in time not off to one side.

2. Create: Being alone is the perfect time to create. There is no one there to stop the creation. It doesn’t matter what it is, whether it is art, writing, as long as it is meaningful and has purpose. You have the perfect opportunity to do something productive instead of wasting your time on mindless consumption. To be truly creative, we need to be totally alone to be free to fully express ourselves.

3. Influence: The ability to be alone tunes you to your inner self. The only way to properly know you inner self is to free yourself of outside influences. If you are constantly surrounded by people, you can never come to conclusions on your own. How are you supposed to know what you truly want if people influence your every decision? Your decision will affect you the most. Therefore, you should be the one to come to those conclusions on your own.

4. Learn: Being alone allows you to learn what you want. The internet is a great source of information; it would be a waste to spend all your time on social networks. It’s so easy to find information on something that interests you. Being on your own allows you to learn about yourself. When you are alone you can find who you are and then explore your findings. The sooner you learn who you are, the sooner you will be content in yourself.

5. Embrace: When we are alone it is the only time we are free. Free from the influence of others, free to learn at your own will and free to create what your heart desires. Be free to follow your thoughts and chase after them. Be inspired by your solitude because it is truly great.

After I collected my content I carefully type set them on each poster so they matched one another and translated the message across clearly.
