I began by designing a piece of artwork that would compliment the type setting and logo on the J-card. I wanted to follow a similar process to how the logo was made so I made sure that I used digital techniques to create the artwork only. This reflected how the music for this label was created, 100% digitally. Having completely digital artwork to complement the digital music would help give it a relevant aesthetic I believed. Using gradients on photoshop and overlaying them inspired by the music as it was playing helped me create this composition above. In some sense it was out of my control how to design was formed whilst I still had some control over where the gradients were placed, the music definitely led the design creating another visual representation of the music. Having them overlay in time with the music created its own colours as well.
This was my first initial mockup for the J-card that I sent of to the client to await feedback just incase it wasn't what he was looking for. The clients response to this was that it was a very cool design and the idea was good however he felt that the colours did not match the tone of voice of the mixtape and perhaps I should try using a darker colour pallet. After this I inverted the gradient image I created and made a simple swatch from it. These are the colours I might be possibly using in further developments of this design.
